The Labour Party Annual Conference 2022

Private roundtable by SME4Labour and the British Takeaway Campaign at Labour Party Conference, Cost of Doing Business: How Labour can Support Small Hospitality Businesses Through the Cost of Living Crisis

We concluded the day with a private roundtable with the British Takeaway council to discuss how small hospitality businesses are combating the cost of living crisis. We were joined by Bill Esterson MP, Collette Bird from Just Eat and Andrew Cook from the National Fish Fryers council.

The discussion centred around the issues takeaways have faced during the cost of living crisis, related to higher energy bills. Many takeaways suffer acutely from this due to the higher running costs of running ovens or fryers. Andrew noted that many businesses have and will close without immediate action from the government.

Bill made clear the Labour Party’s outrage at the lack of support that has been offered, and renewed the pledges of support made by Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves. Takeaways are an important part of local economies, often providing the only jobs available on previously bustling high streets and the Labour Party must continue to support businesses and workers through this crisis.
