With the growth of platform work, declining wages and poorer working conditions – how are workers fighting back in a digital age?

We facilitated a discussion with Labour Together about how the nature of workers organising has changed. Chaired by Hannah O’Rourke with contributions from Tom Hunt, Jay McKenna, Josh Simons and Lucy Harley-McKeown.

The discussion centred around how trade union – and general industrial organising – has changed as our economy has changed. As well as what the Labour Party can & should do to recognise and support this in the future.

Systems to track productivity, including ones as draconian as activity trackers & filming employees on break from remote servers, are already impacting workers quality of life and work and trade unions need to make sure these are the battles we are fighting.

The Labour Party needs to have an updated and relevant understanding of the nature of work in 21st century Britain if we are to have an effective industrial strategy.
