Labour’s determination to see British investment directed first to British industry is fundamental to our approach on defence and security.
SME4Labour helps put SMEs in the forefront of Labour’s economic thinking. With 7,500 SMEs working in the UK defence supply chain, these firms central to UK defence and security – innovating and creating skilled jobs across the country. And as the Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated the risks posed by global supply chains, UK based SMEs can also strengthen our national sovereignty.
The Government’s promise of an overdue upgrade to Britain’s defences after a decade of decline since 2010 is welcome, but Ministers need to ensure the extra investment and contracts fully supports our defence industry’s SMEs.
