On 29th April, SME4Labour hosted its successful Drinks Reception at the renowned venue Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. The evening was a huge success with many Senior Shadow Cabinet Members, Parliamentary Candidates, MPs, and senior business representatives.

Over 200 guests joined SME4Labour for our fantastic Drinks Reception, one of the largest events Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club has seen. Guests of the night included Chi Onwurah MP, John Spellar MP, Lord McNicol, many more PPCs and Council Leaders, and of course, our incredible guest speaker Thangam Debbonaire, Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Media, Culture, Media and Sport.

Catherine Atkinson was our brilliant host of the night and took to the stage to welcome our guest speakers. The evening was filled with lots of buzz and excitement as the room filled up with over 100 business representatives and guests. Our sponsor Owen Meredith, Chief Executive of News Media Association also took to the stage to share the importance of the next Labour Government working with journalists and combating fake news.

With an abundant choice of drinks at the drink’s reception guests waited in anticipation for Thangam Debbonaire, Shadow Cabinet Member for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and she did not disappoint. Thangam gave a brilliant speech which captivated all in the room. As we look towards the next Labour Government Thangam outline the future for business under Labour and all the opportunities it will provide. The Annual Drinks Reception sits as one of SME4Labour’s successful event of 2024 with show-stopping speeches from Chris Rumfitt, Founder and CEO of Field Consulting, Mark Glove, SME4Labour Executive Member and Executive Chairman of SECNewgate.

As 2024 is well under way it is clear to see that business and Labour Party Politicians are gearing up for a Labour victory and are eager to know the future business plans and policies once elected. The event was an optimistic look at the near future and how the economy and country will change the business landscape for all for the better. Labour currently stand ahead of any Party in the polls at 43% according to Politico. Labour are on track to win the next General Election and the business landscape, Labour knows that small and medium enterprises may be important to them now more than ever. Our Drinks Reception was a chance for Labour MPs and senior businesses representatives to come together, network and celebrate those who have achieved being able to connect the Labour Party with small businesses this year and we eagerly await next year’s annual drinks reception.
