SMEs employ 16.8 million people in the UK and play a vital role in the economy. Importantly, they pay their taxes in the UK and keep money circulating in local economies. We have seen what can be achieved when Labour-led local authorities have focused on service procurement from local SMEs. SMEs can also be a driving force in re-imagining and reinvigorating our declining high streets given the right opportunities. Rooted in their communities, they are responsive to local needs and agile enough to meet the changes required as we transition to a carbon-neutral future. SME4Labour understands the strengths of SMEs and is listening to the problems they face as a result of Covid 19. It knows their success is fundamental to a prosperous future and so recognises the need – and the value – in supporting and nurturing them.
